Soles of Kollam Runners Club was formed in 2017 with the objective of promoting healthy living and building a running culture in Kollam. Over the years, the club expanded to more than 250 active members and became instrumental in introducing organized endurance sports to the region.
The inaugural edition of the Desinganad Backwaters Marathon was held on 10 July 2022 and became the first professionally organized marathon event in Kollam’s history. The event received strong support from runners, local residents, and volunteers, immediately establishing itself as a landmark sporting event for the city. Subsequent editions in 2023, 2024, and 2025 continued growing rapidly, with more than 1,000 runners participating annually.
