The Kaveri Trail Marathon was created in 2007 by passionate endurance runners seeking to introduce organized trail running to India at a time when road races dominated the running scene. The event became a landmark moment in Indian endurance sports because it offered a completely off-road marathon experience inspired by international trail racing formats.
Over the years, KTM developed into one of India’s most iconic trail races and helped build the country’s early trail-running culture. Many of India’s experienced trail and ultra runners consider KTM a foundational event within the Indian trail ecosystem. The race also inspired the growth of other trail and ultra-running events across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
